We wish you a Merry Christmas!

'Twas the night before Christmas and on all of the earth,
Not a creature was stirring, not even a Smurf.
Ignoring all warnings of global pollution,
No one bothered to try to find a solution.

And Mama in her 'kerchief and I in my cap,
Had just settled down for a long winter's nap.
When out on the lawn there arose such a clatter,
Everyone falling dead but what did it matter.

Politicians and rich had gone off and fled,
Knowing for sure by Christmas we all would be dead.
With all of the wealth that their ships could carry
Dashed off to the Moon; you know they did not tarry.

Too late did all us poor fools this fact finally grasp,
As you and your loved ones your last breath did gasp.
Each night and weekend to the malls you make full speed
Spending each penny so that to death you would bleed.

Video games, iphones and a shiny new laptop,
You gobbled them up; the spending didn't stop.
Mislead by the merchants so you didn't heed
There's a difference between your wants and true need.

More rapid than plague or a hot burning flame,
The companies all shouted to spend in their name.
Now Microsoft, Now Nike, Now Nissan, too,
Now Citibank, Now Sony, greedy through and through

So the end is now near, run out and buy, buy, buy.
This materialism will ensure we all die.
Now dash away! Dash away! Dash away to the mall!
There will be no tomorrow, today spend it all.

Now the last soul on earth is finally dead,
The rich are so happy their accounts aren't in the red.
And I heard them exclaim in voice so bright,
It's Christmas for the rich, so to us a good night.

Dedicated to the protesters at Copenhagen 2009 who protested the governments and businesses that were not doing enough to cut pollution.
