OK, you travelers getting ready to hit Thailand this vacation, here's a little tip on a great place to eat. This is my favorite place to eat (second is the Hard Rock Cafe), and every trip to Bangkok I always go there at least once. They are open daily from 11:00 AM to 10:00 PM. It is located on a little side street and may be a little hard to find. It is off Sukhumvit Road, between Robinsons and the Ambassador Hotel, on the opposite side of the road. The exact address is 10 Sukhumvit Soi 12, and you can always call (Tel) 2294610, 2294629, 2294633 or 2294636 for reservations or directions.
What I like about the place, although the food is only Thai (which I can eat) is that it is a place with a mission. The prices are reasonable, yet the profit goes to helping the poor in different parts of the country. At one time I thought it's only mission was to save young girls from coming to work in the less desirable parts of Bangkok's entertainment industry as CSWs. However, after talking with the deputy director of the Population and Development Agency (a Non-Governmental Organization) I found out that they did a wide variety of social and medical services. Health care, taking water to the parched parts in the dry season, and education are just a part of what they do. They even have a craft shop next door with products made mostly in the North country by the poor and the money goes back to them. The variety of products is UNBELIEVABLE! Very nice gifts for your Mom, Dad, nephews and nieces, as well as some cute little artificial flowers and key chains made from, well, ah, er continuing on now.
So, please if your next vacation takes you to the City of Angels, please stop by this particularly unusual little restaurant. The interior decor is tactful, yet truly unique. I am sure most of you will like the food, the people and the decor. The name, by the way, was the idea of the original founder to help the people in the North country, and it partly reflects the decor.
