Trail Mix A recipe for Nick's Trail Mix
by Nick Miller
This is nice to take along on a hike, when you go camping, for a day at the beach, a long trip in the car or on the train. You can make it by the serving or you can make it by the ton, I give relative proportions. My recipe follows:
Ingredients:
- 1 part dry roasted peanuts
- 1 part mixed nuts (any kind you like)
- 2 parts chocolate bits
- 1 part raisins
- 1 part mixed dried fruit (any kind you like).
How to make :
- 1. Mix everything well in a bowl
- 2. Seal in closable plastic bags (Ziploc (tm) type are perfect!)
Notes :
- 1. Mix and keep dry. Perfect for trips because this does not require refrigeration and is nutritious.
- 2. Make several packs for all your traveling friends, too!
- 3. In HOT climates, use chocolate adapted for the area or substitute M&M brand (tm) candies.
- 4. In HOT climates, use salted nuts, if desired.
- 5. Modify as needed for special diets, i.e.
- sugar free chocolate for diabetics,
- no salt for high blood pressure,
- etc.
- 6. Add dried meat or fish, i.e.
- beef jerky,
- dried squid,
- etc.
and some crackers or bread, juice or bottled water and you have a complete meal, ready to eat.
