Idioms are colorful ways to make our language more interesting. In English we sometimes use food names in various idioms. As with all idioms, it is important to know how to use them properly. A few of the more interesting ones are below. Please study them and try them out on your English teachers.

hot cakesin great demand, great sales.Today, computers are selling like hot cakes.
hot dog a person who shows off, doing showy or dangerous things.How come you're such a hot dog? Grow up!
meatball a stupid, foolish or geeky person.He's such a meatball.
potato (drop like a hot potato) to drop or quit something quickly.We were going to take a vacation in Hawaii, but when the airline doubled the fare, we dropped that idea like a hot potato.
turkey a. a disliked person. b. something that failed.a. Nobody talks to him, because he's such a turkey. b. The Edsel1 turned out to be a turkey.

1A brand of car in the USA over 50 years ago that wasn't popular and didn't sell. The name Edsel is often used to refer to any similar failed project. Some people think the WWW will turn out to be an Edsel. I hope not! What do you think?
