| a type of country /
folk music played on unamplified stringed instruments, such as a banjo,
fiddle, guitar, etc. and distinguished by its free improvisation and
distinctive, close, typically high-pitched harmony. It seems to have gotten
its start from the name of a group called the Blue Grass
Boys, whose name was in turn taken from the Bluegrass State, a nickname for the state of Kentucky.
However, research for this term has lead to links of musicians in the Czech
Republic, a radio station in Estonia and fan clubs in Australia, so I guess
it ain't just fer country boys. |
